A Career As A Zoning Official

Zoning officials are vital to the planning and building industry and public safety. This means reporting to the manager, plan review, the zoning examiners examine and approve plans submitted for approval for compliance with the applicable zoning by-Laws, other by-Laws, regulations of the city, and other applicable laws for the purpose of issuing building permits. They Issue notices of non-compliance for zoning and other related municipal clearances. They perform mathematical calculations to evaluate land use restrictions such as lot size, density, landscaping, height, setbacks and angular planes, loading and parking requirements. They can notify owner and/or applicant in writing and/or telephone of status of plan review.

They may Appear and give evidence in court; attend the Provincial Land Tribunal and Committee of Adjustment. As a Zoning Official, you’ll work at a municipality and play a vital role collaborating with planners, homeowners, developers, contractors, architects and engineers in the planning, building and growing of communities.
